Sole boards and Baseplates

To ensure a stable scaffold system, it is essential to ensure that both the sole boards and baseplates are level. For uneven surfaces, adjustable bases can provide a level base lift. It is crucial to distribute the load evenly, so no part of the baseplate or adjustable base should extend beyond the soleboard.

To reduce point loading, a longer soleboard may need to be installed to support both inner and outer legs or a beam grillage system to spread the load from the scaffold to the support structure below. Soleboards are not typically needed on firm surfaces like concrete.

However, if they are necessary to spread loads over the softer ground, they should be a minimum of 500 mm long, 225 mm wide, and 30 mm thick hardwood timber or a substitute material and size certified by the scaffold designer or a competent person. It is important to ensure that the sole boards are level, which may require some digging to obtain a level surface.
